"italian onion"
check out this picture... click to enlarge. it's an italian variety of an onion that my neighbor grows. notice the green layers and ridges on the top, the detail in the roots, the shiny coat of the purple, and the juxtaposition on my wood-grained table. how's that for an explanation?
