"America stands in firm opposition to China's detention of political dissidents, human rights advocates and religious activists," Bush will declare in the marquee speech of his three-nation Asia trip. "We speak out for a free press, freedom of assembly and labor rights — not to antagonize China's leaders, but because trusting its people with greater freedom is the only way for China to develop its full potential."
-President George W. Bush
Addition: Read a great article about it here.
It is also of note, that on world human rights affairs, President Bush has a great record. In Africa, he has contributed more to fight AIDS, poverty, and debt than any President in US history.

Thank you for posting this. I know about a week ago, you said you were done with political blogging. and i'm not sure if this counts as political or not---but your heart is obviously geared towards greater issues and i think it's empowering how you educate us all on some of the stances of a lot of the politics. There are, of course, small things we can do as individuals but I love how you ride issues home of what we can do as a nation--and our choice of who leads us on in those changes. Thank you for keeping me so well informed when I'm overwhelmed by the media's take on it all and by this post, making me feel gratitude towards President Bush. (: Please don't stop the "political" blogging!
thanks for the comments cara. it's actually quite hard for me to stop blogging about political issues, since i am a news junkie and i am constantly searching for the truth between the different camps of the media. as far as human rights issues, i see universals in a variety of situations. where there is injustice and manipulation, from scientology to chinese oppression, i have a hard time being silent and not being opinionated. it's not about the political candidates for me, it's about who stands more on the side of doing the work of truth and mercy in our world. everyone differs on their political opinion of this, because a presidential candidate will not ultimately answer this question for us, but i still hope to move in the best direction. thanks for your encouragement!
