In one small Indiana town, there are countless cases of MRSA ( a drug resistant version of a Staph Infection) that have actually translated to people dying, and this happens to be going on in a pig farming town. Is there a connection here? And what causes this virulent superbug? Could it be that we have pumped our livestock with so many antibiotics to make "stronger" and "healthier" pigs that we are fostering a new health epidemic by creating these ghastly disease incubating environments?
What can you do? Well, you can buy local organic (hormone/antibiotic free) meats... and always try to be aware where your food comes from... because I think when we make the connection between our mouths and where are food comes from, it starts to affect our health. For instance, my local grocery store is a giant purveyor of multi-colored "drink", the whitest white bread on earth, and countless other products of dubious origin. I would hope that if the general society made a connection between the source of food and their health... it would change eating habits. But that's another story...
Check out the article HERE, it's some great food for thought. Excuse the pun.

Scary. This is a problem in England, as well. Gordon Ramsay takes his kids to the farm where he gets his meats from and the kids watch as they kill the animal that they will eat for dinner that night. Extreme, but at least they know what they're eating!
great for you to help make other people aware. it's honestly frightening to think of the conditions that factory farmed animals live under that require them to be fed force-fed antibiotics. i think we have a responsibility as humans to count the cost & realize that supporting these industries encourages them to perpetuate some extremely unethical practices.
(p.s. stumbled onto your blog via the nagels'... i'm a friend of your so. cal oxford friends.)
