I got the chance to see Mikey Dread a couple times when I lived in California... he is pictured above with the Clash in New Jersey. He just looks happy up there spreading the rasta vibes to the punk rock crowd, it's great.
He passed away recently from cancer; I was glad I got to spend my birthday with him at the Belly Up club in Solana Beach... great show. And a really innovative and open minded musician who helped transcend genres and also spread reggae to new audiences. He also produced The Clash's Sandinista! triple-album. Can you imagine a rock act at the top of their game telling a record label to get lost and saying they're releasing a TRIPLE album produced by a rastafarian mixer/DJ?? Amazing. It's crazy.
Cheers to Mikey Dread.
